The original Air Yacht. *Semi-enclosed cockpit with side windscreens, looked somewhat like an antique Republic Seabee. POP: 16, with 9 to US Army as S-1. Loening earned the Collier Trophy in 1921 for his design, for which major patents included #1,545,505 and #1,617,816.

Ordered from Wright-Martin, subcontracted to Loening. Strut-braced shoulder wing, twin rudders. The first military monoplane in the US; originally designed with two rudders. Production contract for 5,000 planes cancelled by the Armistice, but design continued as PW-2.
